Living Lab Les Orres | France
Ski resort
Les Orres is a sports and leisure resort in the Hautes-Alpes department in south-eastern France. In winter, the ski resort offers 48 km of slopes. In summer, the area provides multiple opportunities for hiking, biking, well being and relaxation in nature.
Challenge
In 2014, Les Orres set up an energy management system that reduced energy consumption by 20%, green-house gas emissions by 100 t CO2 and the station’s energy bill by 25%.
However, the power capacity of the resort’s private electricity grid represents less than half of the total installed capacity: 4.5 MW for a total of 14 MW.
Solution
In the Smart Altitude Project, Les Orres will build and test an integrated smart grid model.
The consideration of geographical and climatic specificities will allow to design the smart grid model to the stakes of balancing networks, reducing consumption and enhancing energy autonomy of the ski resort.
